5 Easy Tricks to Learn on a Stunt Scooter

5 Easy Tricks to Learn on a Stunt Scooter

Whether you're just starting out on your Xootz stunt scooter or you’ve been riding around the skatepark for a while, learning tricks is one of the best parts of scootering! The good news? You don’t need to be a pro to land your first trick.

We’ve put together a list of 5 easy scooter tricks that are perfect for beginners aged 6 and up. These are simple to learn, super fun to practice, and will help build your skills and confidence as you ride.

Remember: Every trick takes practice so don’t worry if you don’t land it straight away! Keep trying, stay safe, and most importantly, have fun!

1. The Bunny Hop

What it is:
A bunny hop is the first trick every scooter rider should learn. It’s just a small jump with both wheels leaving the ground at the same time.

How to do it:

  1. Ride at a slow but steady speed.
  2. Bend your knees slightly.
  3. Pull up on the handlebars while jumping up with your feet.
  4. Keep your scooter close and try to land with both wheels at the same time.

Top Tip:
Start small. Even a tiny hop counts! With practice, you’ll get higher and smoother.

2. The Manual (Wheelie)

What it is:
The manual is when you balance on your back wheel while riding forward—just like a wheelie on a bike.

How to do it:

  1. Ride slowly and lean your weight slightly back.
  2. Pull up gently on the handlebars.
  3. Try to hold your balance on the back wheel without the back scraping the ground.
  4. Keep your arms straight and use your legs for balance.

Top Tip:
Start by lifting just a little. Don’t try to go too far at first. Practise over soft ground or grass to build your balance safely.

3. The Fakie Ride

What it is:
A fakie is when you ride your scooter backwards—yep, that’s right!

How to do it:

  1. Start by riding up a small ramp or slope.
  2. Let yourself roll backward slowly.
  3. Keep the handlebars straight and look over your shoulder.
  4. Use your foot brake gently to control your speed.

Top Tip:
Fakies help you get used to controlling your scooter in different directions. They're a great trick to add style to your runs!

4. The Tail Tap

What it is:
A tail tap is a quick trick where you tap the back wheel of your scooter on an object (like a curb or small ledge) and hop off again.

How to do it:

  1. Ride towards a small curb or ledge slowly.
  2. Bunny hop and let the back wheel gently tap the edge.
  3. Jump or roll back down smoothly.

Top Tip:
This trick is great for timing and control. Try it on a low curb to start and work your way up.

5. The 180 Spin

What it is:
The 180 spin is a cool beginner trick where you jump and turn your scooter and body halfway around.

How to do it:

  1. Ride forward and crouch down a bit.
  2. Do a bunny hop and twist your shoulders in the direction you want to spin.
  3. The scooter will follow your body—land facing the opposite way.

Top Tip:
Practice your spin on flat ground first. Start with small turns and build up to a full 180.

Final Tips for Beginner Riders

  • Wear safety gear – Always wear a helmet and pads. Even pros fall sometimes!
  • Practise on smooth, flat ground – This helps with balance and makes it easier to learn.
  • Take breaks – Tricks take time. It’s OK to rest and try again tomorrow.
  • Celebrate progress – Even the smallest trick is a big win.

So, grab your Xootz stunt scooter, head outside and give these easy tricks a go. With a bit of practise, you’ll be impressing your friends—and maybe even learning harder tricks in no time!

Happy scooting!
